Abstract

Language:

In steel production, scrap steel is predominantly used in electric arc furnace (EAF) processes. This study aims to model the chemical reactions associated with EAF and ladle furnace (LF) systems in steelmaking to understand their mass balance. The methodology involved developing a mass balance model that incorporates various alloying elements and accounts for the chemical composition of scrap steel. Results indicate that the mass efficiency for iron in the system is approximately 95.93%, with efficiencies calculated for other elements such as carbon (8.45%), silicon (30.31%), manganese (46.36%), phosphorus (30.64%), sulfur (41.96%), and chromium (69.79%). This research provides insights into the efficiency of input materials and their conversions during the steelmaking process, aiding in optimizing production efficiency and material usage in modern steelmaking facilities.
