Sphingopyxis bauzanensissp. nov. is described as a novel psychrophilic bacterium isolated from hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. The objective of the study was to characterize this Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium, which exhibits growth at temperatures ranging from 1 to 30°C. Methodologically, multiple analyses were conducted, including examination of cellular fatty acids, major polar lipids, polyamines, and genomic DNA G+C content. The results revealed that the predominant cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3, C18:1v7c, and others, with the predominant ubiquinone being Q-10. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity demonstrated that strain BZ30T belonged to the family Sphingomonadaceae, revealing high sequence similarities with established Sphingopyxis species. Consequently, based on phenotypic characteristics, phylogenetic data, and DNA–DNA relatedness, strain BZ30T is proposed to represent a novel species within the genus Sphingopyxis, named Sphingopyxis bauzanensis. The type strain is BZ30T.
