Abstract

Language:

The closure of mines can occur due to various factors such as economic, geological, and community pressures, which significantly affect local environments and societies. This study aims to examine the reasons for the abrupt closure of Zaker iron mine, located northeast of Zanjan, and manage the associated risks using a verified mine risk management technique. The research employed risk assessment methods to estimate the probability and potential impacts of the mine closure, focusing on factors specific to small Iranian mines. By analyzing data and variables unique to this mine, the study calculated a verified closure risk factor that is applicable to similar small mining operations across Iran. The findings underscore the importance of accurate predictions regarding mine closure risks to prevent economic and social consequences. Ultimately, this analysis is vital for improving feasibility plans and sustainable mining practices in the region.
