This editorial discusses the significance of renewable green platform chemicals in the synthesis of polymers, highlighting the principles of Green Chemistry that are crucial in this field. The objective is to explore how the use of renewable feedstocks can transition the polymer industry from reliance on petrochemical sources to greener alternatives. The methodology encompasses a review of the contributions made in the special issue, which addresses various aspects of Green Chemistry including safer solvents, catalytic processes, and non-toxic chemical syntheses. Results suggest that incorporating biomass from terrestrial and marine sources presents a promising pathway for producing polymers in a sustainable manner. The findings emphasize the pressing need for the development of alternative materials to alleviate environmental concerns associated with fossil fuel dependency. Moreover, the editorial provides examples of commercially viable natural polymers and discusses their potential as substitutes for conventional raw materials in polymer production. This discourse encourages further exploration into the utilization of renewable resources in the manufacturing processes of the polymer industry.
