Rockfills are granular materials, but significantly influenced by lubrication and crushing in contact zones, both phenomenon increasing with water effect. A review of tests published and complementary one-dimensional compression tests allowed to better understand how water effects rockfill mechanics. The C.J.S. elastoplastic model for granular material is then adapted to the behaviour of rockfills.
