Abstract

Language:

This document focuses on the production of 50,000 metric tonnes of butadiene per year, a critical component in the manufacturing of synthetic rubber and other chemicals. The objective is to provide a comprehensive mass balance for the butadiene production process, analyzing input and output streams comprehensively. Methodologically, the study utilizes a detailed process flow diagram, stream tables, and component flowrates, assessing parameters like temperature, pressure, and mass flow rates across the production stages. Special emphasis is given to the efficiency of the mixer operations, which are assumed to have 100% efficiency with no accumulation. Results indicate that various input streams such as water and furfural play significant roles in the process, with specific calculations presented for each stream's composition and flow rates. Ultimately, the study delineates the chemical processes involved in butadiene production while ensuring a precise balance across all operational stages.
