Abstract

Language:

The rapidly growing industrial development has led to the emission of gaseous and particulate pollutants into the atmosphere, significantly impacting air quality. This study aimed to identify and analyze particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in the steel industrial area of Cilegon, Indonesia. Air quality monitoring was performed using a low-volume Sequential Particulate Matter Sampler over a four-month period from September 2018 to January 2019 at four distinct sampling locations: the main gate area, hot strip mill area, billet post area, and hot blast plant area. The results indicated considerable variations in particulate matter concentrations depending on the specific conditions of each sampling location, with average concentrations ranging from 89.38 to 141.13 µg/m3 for PM10 and 21.74 to 50.69 µg/m3 for PM2.5. Notably, the highest PM10 concentration measured was 338.06 µg/m3 at the hot blast plant area, while the lowest was 16.67 µg/m3 at the billet post area. For PM2.5, concentrations peaked at 141.96 µg/m3 and hit a low of 4.19 µg/m3 at the respective sampling locations. These findings underscore the necessity for routine monitoring to manage and mitigate air pollution in industrial settings.
