Abstract

Language:

This document reports findings from a cooperative study aimed at investigating the treatment of phenolic wastes through chemical oxidation processes. The objective was to identify effective methods for treating these hazardous wastes to minimize their environmental impact. Methodologies employed in the study included various chemical treatments and analyses conducted by participants from multiple organizations such as Armco Steel Corporation, Wallace and Tiernan Company, Inc., and the U.S. Public Health Service. Results indicated that specific chemical oxidation techniques significantly reduced the concentration of phenols in waste streams, thus demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of these methods for environmental remediation. The research findings contribute valuable insights into the management of phenolic waste, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among governmental and industrial entities in addressing pollution control challenges.
