The current research on the resource utilization of fly ash is summarized, emphasizing its physical and chemical properties and the results of research concerning fly ash-based geopolymers. This paper discusses the current application status of fly ash geopolymers and analyzes the main challenges alongside development trends in high-value utilization of this industrial solid waste. The findings indicate that, despite the rise in fly ash generation from coal-fired power generation in China, the comprehensive utilization remains relatively stagnant. It highlights the significant gap between the volume of fly ash produced and its effective resource usage, posing environmental challenges related to fly ash disposal. Strategies for enhancing the sustainable development of high-value resource utilization of fly ash geopolymers are critically evaluated amidst the growing pressure for effective environmental management. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of fly ash applications and encourage further innovations in resource optimization. The integration of this approach could lead to substantial economic benefits while mitigating pollution concerns associated with fly ash.
