This lab manual provides a comprehensive guide for the Materials and Mechanics of Solids course, aimed at B. Tech. students in Mechanical Engineering. The objective is to equip students with essential skills and knowledge required in the analysis and design of mechanical systems. The manual details various experiments, including procedure, observation, and result sections, focusing on shear strength measurements of materials. Methodologically, students are instructed to perform hands-on experiments using a universal testing machine, determining the shear strength through systematic testing and data analysis. Results from these experiments help students understand the behavior of materials under shear stress, fostering their engineering knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The manual supports the academic mission by ensuring quality education and preparing responsible engineers to meet global challenges.
