This study addresses the potential for utilizing mining waste from P.T. Freeport-Timika to produce ceramics, aiming to mitigate environmental impacts associated with mining activities. The objective is to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a ceramic plant using gold mining tailings as the primary raw material. The methodology involves a thorough analysis of tailings composition—consisting mainly of fine sand and clay fractions—followed by outlining production processes including Single and Double Firing techniques. Key findings indicate that an optimal tailings composition of 62.5% is feasible for ceramic production, supplemented by other raw materials like Feldspar and Ball Clay. The planned ceramic factory is designed with a production capacity of 2000 m² per day, requiring a total of 35 tons of tailings daily, with an estimated investment of Rp. 46,183,318,981. Financial analysis reveals a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp. 230,070,369, suggesting a viable investment even with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 3%. This work highlights the potential for sustainable practices in the mining sector by repurposing waste materials into commercially viable products.
