Abstract

Language:

The Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) project aims to develop advanced underground facilities for a groundbreaking particle accelerator with two counter-rotating proton beams at energies of 20 TeV. This paper presents the design and status of the SSC project, focusing on the construction of approximately 87 km of tunnel and additional facilities spread across the gently rolling landscape of Ellis County, Texas. Key features of the underground infrastructure include two deep detector halls for physics experiments, designed to maximize favorable geological conditions. The construction efforts are divided into manageable projects, with significant groundwork already completed. Furthermore, the paper discusses the geological context, detailing the rock formations and soil profiles that influence the construction. These insights into both the project location and construction status provide a comprehensive overview of the ongoing advancements in the SSC program. By presenting the geological conditions, facility designs, and current construction status, this paper highlights essential aspects of constructing the SSC and advancing particle physics research. This comprehensive approach aims to inform stakeholders and the broader community about the SSC's ambitions and current progression.
