This study investigates the galvanic interactions of sulfide minerals during the leaching of flotation concentrate from the Lubin Concentrator, with a focus on the copper sulfide electrodes and pyrite found in the local ores. The objective was to analyze the rest potential of the electrodes, contact potentials of sulfides, and the resulting galvanic currents in various conditions, specifically using deoxygenated sulfuric acid and oxygen-saturated solutions containing Fe(III) ions. A series of measurements demonstrated notable galvanic interactions, particularly between copper sulfides and pyrite, which displayed significant potential differences when short-circuited. The mineralogical analysis revealed that chalcocite and bornite are the prevailing minerals in the polymineral copper concentrate, with chalcopyrite and covellite present in lesser amounts. The results suggest that pyrite has a beneficial effect on enhancing the kinetics of copper leaching from the Lubin concentrate due to the observed galvanic interactions. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricacies involved in the processing of Polish copper ores and offers insights that may enhance effective metal recovery strategies.
