Abstract

Language:

Iron disilicide synthesis by mechanical alloying was performed, revealing the formation of /H9255-FeSi, /H9251-Fe1−xSi2, and amorphous FeSi2 phases with relative intensities dependent on milling duration. The /H9252-FeSi2 phase emerged post-annealing when the gridded powder reached a stability-appropriate temperature. A combination of Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods facilitated the identification of the distinct phases created during this process. High-resolution scanning electron microscopy was employed to examine the morphology of the resulting particles. The study systematically evaluated the effects of milling on bulk iron-silicide samples and investigated the chemical changes within Fe-Si2 systems. This research aimed to delineate the phases resulting from extended mechanical alloying of Fe2Si powders while synthesizing the /H9252-FeSi2 phase and analyzing how the milling process influences stable phases of /H9251-Fe0.8Fe2 and /H9252-FeSi2.
