In hydrometallurgical processes, the use of metal sulphide precipitation has received increased attention due to its advantages over traditional hydroxide methods, particularly in terms of metal removal efficiency at lower pH levels. This study aims to explore the effect of sulphide precipitation on metal sulphide removal, addressing key challenges associated with the process. Methodologically, the work investigates the phenomena of particle formation influenced by low solubilities and high supersaturation, leading to the production of fine particles through mechanisms such as nucleation, aggregation, and attrition. Additionally, the study considers the complications arising from excessive sulphide concentrations, which can result in the formation of aqueous polysulphide complexes that may hinder metal removal by consuming the available sulphide reagent. The findings highlight the delicate balance required in controlling sulphide concentrations to optimize metal recovery while managing the inevitable challenges related to particle formation and reagent consumption. Ultimately, this work provides valuable insights into the complexities of metal sulphide precipitation and its implications for effective metal recovery in hydrometallurgical applications.
