This feasibility study investigates the potential applications of fermented tea extracts in bioenergy and biorefinery, focusing on their antioxidant properties and electrochemical characteristics. Leveraging prior research that highlights the significance of polyphenols and flavonoids, the study explores how these compounds could influence bioelectrochemical systems. Utilizing varied fermented tea extracts, the research aims to understand their electron-shuttling capabilities and antioxidant content, which may enhance their effectiveness in biofuel cells and functional foods. Results indicate that highly fermented tea extracts demonstrate diminished electron-shuttling capabilities due to reduced polyphenolic content. The findings align with existing literature and underscore the potential for utilizing fermented tea extracts in sustainable bioenergy practices. This research contributes valuable insights toward the ecological appropriateness of using natural plant-derived materials in innovative biorefinery applications.
