This study aims to investigate the relationship between the use of confidence indicators and quote marks in English literature, focusing on statistical measures. Given the rise of debate regarding the significance of quotation marks in representing confidence in written communication, we implemented a quantitative analysis involving a comprehensive corpus of English texts. We employed regression analysis and correlation metrics to evaluate the data, revealing significant patterns in the use of quote marks alongside varying confidence levels expressed in the texts. The results indicate that texts with higher confidence levels feature fewer quote marks, suggesting that a greater reliance on direct statement diminishes the need for quotation. Additionally, we discovered contrasting usages in different genres, indicating that literary styles influence the incorporation of quotation marks. Our findings contribute to the ongoing discussion surrounding linguistic confidence representation and its perceptible cues in English writing. This analysis not only enriches the understanding of quotation mark usage but also provides insights into the implicit communication of confidence in literature. Future research may explore the application of these findings across diverse linguistic contexts and their impact on reader interpretation.
