Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the design criteria for rolling caster tips, focusing on maintaining a uniform molten metal velocity profile to prevent defects during the high-speed casting of aluminum alloys. The objective was to identify and mitigate issues such as hot spots and surface defects caused by internal flow disturbances and temperature variations across the roll caster. Employing fluid mechanics principles, the research involved theoretical calculations to ascertain the ideal conditions for a flat velocity profile within the caster tip. A practical water model was constructed to validate the theoretical findings. Experimental results demonstrated a strong agreement with the theoretical expectations, indicating the effectiveness of the established design criteria in minimizing flow disturbances and enhancing the casting process. Ultimately, this work contributes to improving the efficiency and quality of the twin roll caster process in aluminum manufacturing.
