Abstract

Language:

As global population levels rise, the demand for energy has soared, prompting the exploration of clean and alternative energy solutions. This paper examines the implementation of agrivoltaics as a strategy for vegetable production amidst the challenges posed by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly following commitments made by countries in the Paris Climate Agreement (PCA) of 2015. Using a review of literature and analysis of renewable energy potentials, the study investigates how integrating solar energy generation in agricultural practices can contribute to mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change while enhancing crop productivity. Data collected indicates that India, being the third-largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, has significant potential for solar farming, which could reduce reliance on coal-powered electricity generation. The findings highlight that by diversifying energy sources through agrivoltaics, not only can the environmental footprint of vegetable production be minimized, but economic growth can be aligned with sustainable practices. This research contributes to the discourse on the essential need for adopting greener technologies in response to burgeoning energy demands and climate challenges, emphasizing the dual benefits of energy generation and agricultural productivity.
