Abstract

Language:

There are various technologies for processing pyrite concentrates containing non-ferrous metals like Au, Ag, and Cu. However, these technologies often have drawbacks such as the undesired emission of sulfur dioxide and incomplete metal extraction. This study presents a new technology aimed at obtaining pure sponge iron while preventing SO₂ release into the atmosphere. The process involves converting sulfur into liquid hydrogen sulfide, which can be further processed into sodium sulfide, a useful product for ore enrichment. The methodology consists of high-temperature treatment of pyrite concentrate in a water vapor medium. The paper details the temperature regimes for processing pyrite concentrates and provides insights into the chemical composition of both the novel material and the final product. The effectiveness of the technology has been validated through tests conducted in a pilot laboratory plant using concentrates from the Kajaran deposit in Armenia. A comprehensive understanding of the technological details and chemical interactions involved in this process is essential for advancing the efficient processing of pyrite concentrates.
