As world population increases and demand for natural resources grows, the need for accurate assessments of mineral resources becomes critical. This document presents flow studies for recycling 26 key metal commodities in the United States, ranging from aluminum to zinc. The objective is to provide a comprehensive analysis of recycling contributions to the national economy, highlighting that recycling accounts for over half of the U.S. metal supply by weight and approximately 40 percent by value. Methodologically, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected, analyzed, and disseminated data regarding domestic and international mineral markets, focusing on the recycling sector. Results indicate that recycling not only provides significant environmental benefits but also plays an essential role in the U.S. economy and national security. Supplying this information to decision-makers supports wise resource management amidst growing environmental challenges. Overall, this assessment emphasizes the vital importance of recycling in the sustainable management of natural resources.
