Abstract

Language:

We consider a general class of non-local Maxwell-Chern-Simons (MCS) models that extends the usual minimal coupling to a conserved current by incorporating a non-minimal magnetic Pauli-type coupling. The objective of this study is to investigate the conditions under which self-duality emerges in these models. Utilizing duality transformations, we demonstrate that the partition function remains invariant when the magnetic coupling constant takes on a specific value. This invariance leads to both the original action and its dual counterpart sharing the same structure. The findings reveal that these duality transformations exhibit a resemblance to the self-duality observed in the (2+1)-dimensional Z_n-abelian Higgs model, characterized by the presence of Chern-Simons terms and a bare mass term. The significance of duality symmetries is highlighted as it allows for the derivation of exact non-perturbative results and offers insights into the phase diagrams of the relevant physical systems. This analysis contributes to the ongoing discourse surrounding infinite discrete symmetries and duality syndromes in supersymmetric gauge theories, string theories, and condensed matter physics.
