Abstract

Language:

The main objective of this study is to investigate the potential use of various solid wastes for producing construction materials. This paper is based on a comprehensive review of available literature on construction materials, including different kinds of solid wastes. Traditional methods for producing construction materials rely on valuable natural resources, while industrial and urban management systems generate solid wastes that are often dumped in open fields, leading to serious environmental detriment. To safeguard the environment, many efforts are being made for the recycling of different types of solid wastes with a view to utilizing them in the production of construction materials. This paper discusses the environmental implications caused by solid waste generation, highlights recycling potentials, and suggests possible uses for manufacturing construction materials. Furthermore, it presents real-world applications of solid waste-based construction materials and identifies research needs in this field.
