Abstract

Language:

This chapter focuses on the mineralogical investigation of gold ores, emphasizing its critical role in pre-feasibility studies and quality control measures during process optimization. The objective is to integrate mineralogical information with metallurgical testwork results to evaluate appropriate processing methods and select optimal technologies for plant design. The methodology involves conducting comprehensive gold deportment studies, which encompass identifying, quantifying, and assessing various forms and carriers of gold to evaluate the completeness of mineralogical gold distribution. The results indicate that a deviation of 10% between mineralogical gold tally and assayed values is acceptable for gold concentrations within a specified range. This approach is more accurate compared to traditional diagnostic leaching methods and provides rapid insights into process leachability. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of studying gangue minerals and other species affecting gold processing, recognizing that the presence of certain compounds can impact overall recovery and design efficiencies. By addressing these factors, the chapter aims to enhance process optimization and improve the performance of gold extraction operations.
