Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the electrochemical nucleation and growth mechanisms of black and white chromium deposits on stainless steel surfaces. The objective was to understand the influence of electrochemical parameters on the morphology and structure of the deposits formed during electrodeposition. Experimental methods included the analysis of current-time transients under various applied potentials to determine growth kinetics. Results demonstrated that the nucleation rates and number densities of active sites varied significantly between the two types of deposits, with distinct electrochemical signatures observed. The study highlights the critical role of potential in controlling not only the form of chromium deposit but also its characteristics, providing insight into optimizing electrodeposition processes for industrial applications.
