Abstract

Language:

The study explores the historical context and the chemical properties of cadmium, which was discovered during the early 19th century by chemist Stromeyer while examining samples believed to contain arsenic. The objective is to summarize the occurrence, recovery, and properties of this metal, emphasizing its association with zinc ores. Methodologically, the research reviews historical and scientific literature, investigating cadmium's concentration in the Earth's crust and its physical characteristics, such as melting and boiling points, density, and crystal structure. Results indicate that cadmium exists in low concentrations, primarily associated with zinc, and is characterized by a unique crystal structure and chemical reactivity. The findings also highlight the toxic nature of cadmium compounds and their implications for environmental and health safety. This comprehensive overview underscores the significance of cadmium and its impact on both science and industry, particularly in metallurgical applications.
