This study investigates the effects of initial temperature, sulphuric acid concentration, and oxygen partial pressure on the pressure leaching of a shale fraction of copper ore. The leaching experiments were carried out in an autoclave under temperatures ranging from 100 to 180 °C using oxygen as an oxidizing agent. Shale material, sourced from the first cleaning of the Lubin Concentrator (ZWR Lubin), exhibited elevated levels of both metals and organic carbon. Sulphuric acid concentrations used in the experiments varied from 20 to 50 g/dm³. The results demonstrated a high efficiency of pressure leaching for the extraction of copper, cobalt, nickel, iron, and zinc from the polymetallic shale middlings derived from the Lubin Concentrator. These findings highlight the applicability of pressure hydrometallurgy as a significant method for processing complex ores and recovering valuable metals from challenging materials, further justifying the industrial scale investigation of the pressure leaching process.
