Abstract

Language:

Two new complexes of (z)-1-(pyridine-2-ylmethylene) thiosemicarbazide, abbreviated as PMTC, were synthesized and characterized through the reaction of this novel ligand with CoCl·6H2O and Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O. The new ligands and complexes were analyzed using microanalyses and FT-IR spectroscopy. The biochemical activities associated with these complexes were also discussed, revealing that Schiff bases derived from aromatic aldehydes display significant potential in medicinal and pharmaceutical applications, including antibacterial, antifungal, and antitumor activities. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge regarding the coordination chemistry of Schiff bases and their multifaceted biological implications, emphasizing the importance of understanding the interactions between metal ions and biologically active compounds. The synthesized complexes demonstrate unique structural features and hold promise for further investigations into their functional activities and applications in various fields of chemistry and biomedicine.
