Sampling methods for feasibility studies depend on the geological characteristics of the deposit being evaluated. This chapter presents a preliminary geostatistical study that considers autocorrelation aspects of the variables under study, ensuring the optimization of the sample plan design to produce grade and tonnage estimates within stipulated error limits. Regular sample distribution and consistent sample lengths are recommended to facilitate statistical analysis, with plans being continually modified based on additional information obtained during the sampling program. The evaluation of bulk samples for metallurgical testing is discussed in relation to the variance and internal variability of grade within samples, emphasizing the importance of proper evaluation to ensure reliable pilot test results. A generalized model of a deposit, often overlooked, is crucial for a quantitative evaluation of the representativeness of bulk samples and provides essential information for optimizing plant design.
