This document presents an in-depth appraisal of underground radioactive waste disposal methods within argillaceous and crystalline rock formations, addressing critical geochemical, geomechanical, and hydrogeological considerations. The objective is to analyze the effectiveness and safety of different disposal strategies while ensuring environmental protection. A comprehensive review of existing literature, alongside theoretical frameworks and empirical data, guides the evaluation process. Key methodologies involved the investigation of groundwater movement, thermal convection, and the mechanics of forces acting on rocks, supplemented by a series of case studies demonstrating the performance of waste containment systems in various geological settings. Results indicate that while argillaceous and crystalline rocks possess distinct advantages as barriers to waste migration, challenges concerning geochemical stability and mechanical integrity remain. The findings emphasize the necessity for continued research to optimize waste isolation strategies and enhance the understanding of rock properties as they relate to radioactive waste management.
