Abstract

Language:

Versatile zirconium oxide as a ceramic has propelled a rapid development of science and technology for diverse applications. This review presents the properties, synthesis techniques, and various applications of zirconium oxide (ZrO2), highlighting its role as a high-k dielectric material and its mechanical resistance. It discusses the material's transition from silicon dioxide (SiO2) due to its superior dielectric constant, making it suitable for memory device applications and its implications in nuclear reactors, inert matrix fuels, and radioactive waste systems. Additionally, the review emphasizes ZrO2's strength and aesthetics in prosthetic dentistry, expressing how its stabilizers like Y2O3 and MgO enhance utility in specialized fields. The use of zirconium oxide in energy-efficient fuel cells is underscored, particularly for generating electricity from natural gas. The review also touches on the significant mechanical properties of ZrO2, its resistance to mechanical strength under variable conditions, and unique phenomena like phase transformations affected by temperature and ion beam irradiation. Overall, this comprehensive examination aims to provide a knowledge base for future advancements and applications in optical, medical, biological, and electrical devices.
