Abstract

Language:

This paper presents a study of the desorption of gold adsorbed onto activated carbon using mixtures of dilute NaOH and different organic solvents. The objective was to investigate the effect of solvent components on the desorption rate and to compare gold desorption with cyanide and thiourea. The methodology involved conducting experiments with varying solvent compositions to determine the desorption rates. Results indicated that the highest gold desorption rates were obtained with water/aceton/OH- solvents in the absence of cyanide. Moreover, the isopropyl alcohol/water/thiourea/OH- system demonstrated significant effectiveness at ambient temperature. The apparent activation energy for the isopropyl alcohol/water/OH- system was measured at 36.4 kJ/mol, while for the isopropyl alcohol/water/thiourea/OH- and acetone/water/OH- systems, it was 28.0 kJ/mol. Overall, the presence of NaOH in the solvent mixtures was crucial for achieving high desorption rates and effective desorption extents.
