Silicon with high purity and fine particle size can be produced by acid leaching of Fe-Si industrial alloys under adequate chemical and structural conditions. The study synthesizes alloys within the quaternary system Fe-Si-Ca-Al, focusing on the phase constitution for optimization. The leaching experiments were performed using hydrochloric acid (HCl) at concentrations of 150 and 220 g/L, consistently maintaining a temperature of 102 °C under atmospheric conditions. Results showed that maximizing the Caalsifer plus Al-Fe-Si phases while minimizing the FeSi2 phases is crucial. This can be achieved by carefully controlling the Al/Ca and Fe/Si concentration ratios during the synthesis process. The findings contribute to developing an industrial process for obtaining high-grade silicon with a purity of 99.9%, addressing challenges associated with existing impurity phases in metallurgical grade silicon. This approach holds potential for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of purification methods for silicon used in various industrial applications.
