Abstract

Language:

The Doré process represents a distinctive method for treating precious metals in copper electrorefining, utilizing anode slime as raw material while generating slag as a byproduct. This process, however, is not flawless; a portion of the metals inevitably gets lost into the slag. This study aims to recover valuable metals, particularly Cu, Bi, and Sb, from Doré slag using a mineral acid leaching approach, thereby enhancing sustainability and promoting a circular economy. The research investigates the hydrometallurgical extraction of these metals through direct mineral acid (aqua regia) leaching at temperatures of 30 to 50 °C, employing oxygen purging and 1 vol-% of H2O2. Initial dissolved concentrations of Cu, Bi, and Sb from the Doré slag are determined, with comprehensive chemical and mineralogical analyses conducted on the raw material, leaching residues, and leaching solutions to elucidate the leaching behavior of the metals. The findings suggest a viable alternative for metal recovery in the context of minimizing waste and reinforcing materials’ relevance in the circular economy framework.
