The separation of precious metals, particularly palladium, can effectively be achieved through the utilization of ion exchange resins, specifically designed for chloride complexes. This study aims to evaluate the loading isotherms and kinetics of palladium absorption onto an anion resin, Amberlite IRA 900, a strong-base resin. A pure K2PdCl4 solution was prepared for metal loading tests, wherein the resin and test solutions were equilibrated for two days in plastic bottles. The equilibrium data was analyzed, fitting best to the Freundlich model, which also aligned well with the kinetic data, indicating that the sorption process transitions from mass transfer control to pore diffusion as equilibrium is approached. The experimental results confirm that almost complete recovery of palladium can be realized using the appropriate quantity of resin, although the sorption kinetics are relatively slow, occurring over several hours. These findings support the potential of ion exchange resins in selectively extracting precious metals from complex ore compositions, laying the groundwork for future research aimed at enhancing metal recovery and purity in the precious metals industry.
