Abstract

Language:

In recent years, advancements in metrology and measurement techniques have significantly impacted the field of engineering surfaces, particularly in composite materials. This paper aims to explore the latest developments presented during the International Conference on Functional Materials and Manufacturing Processes (ICFMMP) 2019, focusing on novel measurement techniques and metrological assessments in engineering applications. A comprehensive review of current methodologies employed in assessing engineered surfaces is provided, alongside case studies demonstrating the practical application of these measurements in various engineering sectors. The derived results underscore the importance of precision in the measurement processes, especially when dealing with complex materials such as composites, which demand specialized approaches. Furthermore, challenges in the current metrological frameworks are discussed, paving the way for future research. The findings contribute valuable insights into the ongoing discourse on enhancing measurement standards, thereby promoting the reliability of engineering applications that depend on accurate surface metrology. This work serves as a foundation for further explorations aimed at improving measurement techniques in the evolving landscape of engineering materials and surface quality assessment.
