Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the potential of algal-like microalgae in the elimination of nitrite from wastewater. The objective was to determine the efficiency of selected microalgae strains in degrading nitrite levels under various environmental conditions. An experimental setup was employed, where different concentrations of nitrite were treated with microalgae cultures, measuring the reduction of nitrite over time. Results indicated that certain strains, particularly those adapted to higher nitrite concentrations, exhibited significant removal efficiencies, often exceeding 85% within 72 hours. The findings suggest that utilizing algal-like microalgae could provide a sustainable and effective approach for treating nitrite-rich wastewater. This method not only addresses pollution but also promotes the recovery of valuable biomass for potential bioproducts. Future work is recommended to explore the underlying mechanisms of nitrite uptake and optimize growth conditions for maximum removal rates.
