The electrorefining process of the non-commercial Cu anodes was tested on enlarged laboratory equipment over a period of 72 hours. The study utilized Cu anodes with nickel content of 5 or 10 wt.% and a total lead, tin, and antimony content of approximately 1.5 wt.%. A real waste solution with sulfuric acid character was employed as the working electrolyte, maintained at different temperatures (T1 = 63 ± 2 ◦C and T2 = 73 ± 2 ◦C). The current density was established at 250 A/m², consistent with commercial practices. The results confirmed the feasibility of utilizing these anodes in the commercial copper electrorefining process, as evidenced by the dissolution of elements from the anodes and the absence of total anode passivation, which allowed copper to be effectively deposited onto cathodes. The masses of the cathode deposits further validated the successful deployment of Cu ions from the electrolyte, thereby showcasing the potential for effective recycling of non-commercial copper anodes in metallurgical processes.
