In this study, variations in the chemical composition of some steels during continuous casting at Eregli Iron and Steel Works Co. (ERDEMIR), Turkey, were investigated. The objective was to evaluate the changes in chemical analysis along the slab strand and determine if the number of specimens taken per heat could be reduced without compromising quality control. The methodology involved taking three steel specimens from the mold at specified intervals along the slab strand for analysis. The findings revealed significant variations in the chemical composition, particularly in ultra-low carbon steels, indicating that careful monitoring is essential. Furthermore, it was concluded that the number of analysis samples could be minimized under specific conditions for grade Y and grade Z type steels without sacrificing quality control in the continuous casting process. These results suggest potential efficiencies in the sampling process, which could benefit steel production practices.
