Distillation is a fundamental commercial process utilized for the purification of various materials, involving the transformation of substances from the condensed phase to the gas phase through vaporization and sublimation. The objective of this discussion is to elucidate the principles underlying distillation, vapor pressure, and their applications in compound purification. Methodologically, the text describes the behavior of pure substances during vaporization and sublimation, emphasizing the role of vapor pressure and its dependence on temperature. It explains key phenomena such as boiling, normal boiling points, and the behavior of azeotropes, which are liquid mixtures exhibiting constant boiling temperatures at specific concentrations and cannot be separated by distillation. Results indicate that the boiling point of impure substances varies with composition, highlighting the importance of this characteristic in the distillation process.
