Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) poses a severe pollution problem attributed to current and past mining activities. This study aims to develop and optimize the process of selective sequential precipitation (SSP) for recovering metals from AMD, focusing on iron, copper, aluminum, zinc, and manganese. The methodology includes both abiotic and biological strategies for metal precipitation, using sodium hydroxide to raise pH in the abiotic system and hydrogen sulfide from sulfate-reducing bacteria in the biological system. The research identifies that initially removing iron from AMD in the optimized SSP process enhances the overall selectivity and efficiency of metal recovery. Results indicate significant recoveries of targeted metals, demonstrating the effectiveness of SSP in addressing the environmental challenges posed by AMD. Ultimately, the study provides insights into alternative treatment methods for AMD that can reduce pollution impacts and contribute to resource recovery from mining activities.
