This paper examines the implications of the Greek War Act 2636/1940 on the native Muslim Arvanites, investigating its historical and socio-political context. The objective is to clarify the misconception that this Act had any binding effect on the rights and inheritances of the Arvanite community. Utilizing a historical analysis methodology, the paper delves into the origins of the term 'Epirus', the demographic distinctions among Arvanites, and the geopolitical dynamics of the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. Key findings reveal that the Act was an economic measure with no legal ramifications for Muslim Arvanites, contrasting with the narratives propagated by nationalist discourses. Additionally, the historical context surrounding the establishment of the Greek state and its implications on the Arvanite Muslim identity are discussed, highlighting the complexities of national identity in the region. Moreover, the impact of historical injustices, such as the dispossession and deportations experienced by the Arvanites during the Balkan Wars and World War II, is analyzed. Overall, the paper contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the implications of national policies on minority groups in Greece during critical historical junctures.
