This paper explores the prevalent confusion and delusion surrounding documentation in the painting industry, particularly regarding paint coating applications. The objective is to critically analyze commonly held beliefs that can hinder effective coating application and durability. The methodology involves examining four specific misconceptions prevalent in the industry: the assumption that a thicker coating inherently results in greater durability, the belief that adherence to standards for thickness testing guarantees the identification of non-conforming regions, the presumption that curing and drying times in product data sheets (PDS) are always clear, and the expectation that PDS provides sufficient information for the proper selection and application of coatings. Through a detailed investigation of terminology discrepancies and industry practices, the paper highlights the potential for misunderstanding among contractors and inspectors relying on these documents. The results underscore the need for clarity and consistency in coating documentation to prevent costly errors and ensure optimal performance of paint coatings. By addressing these misconceptions, the paper advocates for improved industry standards and practices to enhance the reliability of coating documentation and its interpretation.
