This paper discusses the application of sulphide and ion exchange technologies for metal recovery and water treatment in the copper mining industry. The objective is to demonstrate the effectiveness of biogenic sulphide in precipitating copper and other base metals, contributing to both metal recovery and environmental control. Utilizing BioteQ's BioSulphide® technology, industrial implementations showcased a cost-effective method for generating biogenic sulphide, which is beneficial for extracting copper, zinc, and nickel from low-grade leach solutions and wastewater. Results from operating commercial plants indicate successful production of high-quality treated effluents for release into the environment. Furthermore, this study describes a novel application of BioteQ's sulphide technology within the SART process, which uses biogenic sulphide to recover copper and cyanide from gold-copper processing solutions. Additionally, BioteQ introduced Sulf-IX TM, an ion-exchange technology designed to remove sulphate from wastewaters, meeting regulatory requirements for discharge. This research emphasizes the importance of advanced technologies in enhancing both environmental and economic performance in the mining sector, particularly in areas such as Chile where water resource management is critical.
