Abstract

Language:

The use of corrosion inhibitors is one of the most economical and practical means of controlling metallic corrosion in different corrosive media. This review aims to update the literature on the application of polymers as corrosion inhibitors, highlighting their recent developments from 2010 to 2013. The methodology includes evaluating various synthetic and natural polymers known for their efficacy in inhibiting metallic corrosion. The results indicate that polymers are valuable due to their low cost, stability in acidic environments, and their capability to form complexes with metal ions, which effectively occupy the surface area and shield metals from corrosive agents. The review compiles a diverse range of studies that showcase the advancements in the field, demonstrating a growing acceptance of polymer-based corrosion inhibitors, attributed to their multiple adsorption sites and the protective layers they form on metal surfaces. This compilation serves as a significant contribution to the knowledge base, emphasizing the industrial relevance and potential of utilizing polymers in corrosion protection strategies.
