Mechanochemistry is a branch of solid state chemistry which investigates processes occurring in solids due to the application of mechanical energy. The objective of this review paper is to explore the theoretical foundation and potential applications of mechanochemistry. Methodologically, the paper discusses the various types of mills used in mechanochemistry and provides theoretical background on enhanced reactivity, alongside characterizing methods and specific applications in material science and pharmacy. Results demonstrate significant applications such as the modification of building materials, innovative fertilizer production methods, enhancement of catalyst activity and regeneration, as well as improvements in the solubility and bioavailability of drugs. Moreover, the control of reaction kinetics in chemical technology and advancement in synthesizing novel materials are highlighted. Mechanochemistry not only possesses lower reaction temperature requirements but also enhances reaction rates and dissolutions, thereby promoting simpler and cost-effective processing in shorter time frames.
