In the discipline of civil engineering, the foundation plays a crucial role in supporting and containing loads of complete structures. Therefore, a foundation needs to be strong enough to increase any structure's useful life. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pulverized used paper and sugarcane straw ash as stabilizers of vertisols soil in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija. Using AASHTO and USCS classification systems, natural soil was identified as weak and high in clay content, deemed unsuitable for engineering purposes. The methodology involved assessing the index properties of the soil, with initial results indicating a high plasticity index. However, upon treatment with 15% sugarcane straw ash and pulverized used paper, a notable decrease in the plasticity index to 25% was observed, indicating improved stabilization. Furthermore, there were increases in compaction parameters and California Bearing Ratio (CBR), with values rising to 14.0283 kN/m3 and 5.47 at 100% MDD, respectively. While these values did not meet sub-base coarse standards, considerable improvements were noted in soil properties. This research concludes that SCSA and PUP are effective in stabilizing vertisols soil.
