In this paper, a new distributed electronic on-board system for seakeeping studies is introduced, aimed at enhancing the control and management of oscillatory ship motions induced by ocean waves. The objective is to develop a controller area network bus (CANbus)-based system that incorporates various motion sensors, submerged moving wing actuators, an embedded personal computer, a miniaturized inertial unit, and a digital radio link, facilitating both scaled and real ship applications. Utilizing a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches, detailed methodology involves the construction of a scaled replica of a fast ship equipped with specific actuators, including transom flaps and T-foils, designed to efficiently mitigate vertical accelerations experienced during navigation. Results from seakeeping experimental studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the on-board system in managing ship dynamics and improving passenger comfort. This innovative system architecture and operations are elaborated, showcasing its potential contributions to marine vehicle control technologies.
