Abstract

Language:

Using adhesives for connection technology has many benefits. It is cost-efficient, fast, and allows homogeneous stress distribution between the bonded surfaces. This paper gives an overview of recent developments in adhesives and surface treatments specifically aimed at structural applications involving metal and composite substrates, with a focus on sustainability. The objective of this review is to consolidate recent advancements in adhesive technologies and their practical implementation while addressing environmental concerns. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, assessing various adhesives and surface treatment methodologies, their performance in different structural applications, and sustainability considerations. The results highlight the trend towards more eco-friendly adhesive solutions, the importance of surface preparation, and innovative bonding techniques that enhance performance while mitigating environmental impact. Additionally, the review discusses future directions for research and development in this field, promoting the adoption of sustainable practices in adhesive applications. The findings illustrate the potential for significant improvement in both the environmental footprint and mechanical performance of bonded structures by integrating sustainable materials and methods. Central to this approach is the need for ongoing collaboration between industry and academia to drive innovation and implementation in adhesive technology.
