Abstract

Language:

The extraction of refractory gold ores remains a significant challenge, primarily due to the presence of sulfide and carbonaceous materials that hinder gold recovery during cyanidation. This study aims to explore the electrooxidation process as a pretreatment method to improve gold extraction rates. A comprehensive methodology was employed, involving an investigation of various pre-treatment techniques, including chemical and electrochemical oxidation, to treat refractory ores prior to cyanidation. The application of electro-oxidation using sodium hypochlorite was highlighted as a promising approach to enhance gold recoverability. The findings indicate that electro-oxidation effectively oxidizes sulfur species and carbon materials, thereby facilitating improved conditions for cyanidation. Preliminary results suggest that the in situ generation of oxidizing agents via electrochemical means can significantly reduce the adverse effects of contaminants during the cyanide leaching process. Ultimately, this research underscores the potential of electrochemical methods as innovative solutions for overcoming existing barriers in the extraction of gold from refractory ore deposits.
